Frequently asked questions
The things people ask most about Dock+: privacy, setup, permissions and fixes for common hiccups.
Is my data private?
Yes. Dock+ has no accounts, no analytics, no trackers and no telemetry. Your calendar, reminders, mail, music, passwords and browser tabs are read on your Mac and never leave it. The only exception is the weather: your approximate location goes to Open-Meteo for the forecast and to Apple (through macOS Location Services) to find your city name. Turn off the weather widget and that stops too. Details are in the privacy policy.
Does it need an account?
No. There's nothing to sign up for. Download it, grant the permissions for the widgets you use, and you're done. Your settings stay on your Mac.
Which version of macOS do I need?
macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.
Is it free?
Yes. Dock+ is free and open source under the MIT license. The code is on GitHub.
A permission still says “Not set” after I allowed it.
Click Grant in Dock+'s own Settings: macOS only lists an app under a permission after the app asks. If no prompt appears, use No prompt? Open System Settings ▸ Privacy and switch Dock+ on there.
I see two Dock+ entries in System Settings.
One is left over from an older version. Remove both with the minus button, then grant the permission again from Dock+'s Settings.
The 1Password widget says “No accounts configured”.
Install the 1Password CLI (brew install 1password-cli), turn on Integrate with 1Password CLI in 1Password ▸ Settings ▸ Developer, then click Retry in the widget and approve the prompt. See the setup guide.
Clicking a Chrome tab or an email does nothing the first time.
macOS is waiting for you to allow Automation. Answer the prompt, or turn Dock+ on under System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Automation.
Will Dock+ cover my windows?
No. With Keep windows from covering Dock+ on (the default), windows stop at its top edge. It needs the Accessibility permission. Full-screen windows are left alone, and minimizing Dock+ gives the space back.
Can I move it or change its look?
Yes. Put it at the bottom or top of the screen, reorder or remove widgets, and pick an accent color, all in Settings.
Does the Music widget work with Spotify?
Yes, for now playing and controls. The playlist view is Apple Music only.
Dock+ starts at login even though the option is off.
An older login entry may still exist. Remove Dock+ from System Settings ▸ General ▸ Login Items. Turning the option off in Dock+ also clears old entries.
